Privacy Policy
We come into your home, measure your windows and photograph your rooms. This page sets out exactly what we record, why we need it, who ever sees it, and how you can get it back or have it deleted.
The short version
- We collect your contact details, your address, what you want done and the measurements and photos we take in your home — because we cannot make a made-to-measure product without them.
- We share the bare minimum with the people who make, ship and install your order. Our manufacturing partner is in China, so window sizes and specifications go overseas — your name, address and phone number do not.
- We never sell your information, and we never pass it to another business for their own marketing.
- Photographs of your home are only ever published with your written permission, and you can withdraw that permission at any time.
- You can ask us what we hold, have it corrected, or ask us to delete it — email hello@luminaireliving.com.au.
Who we are
In this policy, “Luminaire Living”, “we”, “us” and “our” mean Luminaire Living (ABN 51 462 784 531) of 28 Augusta Street, Willetton WA 6155. “You” means any person whose personal information we hold — customers, people who enquire, suppliers and visitors to this website.
This policy applies to everything we do: this website, phone and email enquiries, in-home consultations, manufacture, installation and after-sales service.
Our commitment
We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the thirteen Australian Privacy Principles (APPs), and we treat this policy as binding on us.
We are a small business, and businesses under the turnover threshold in the Privacy Act are not always legally required to comply with it. We have chosen to hold ourselves to the same standard regardless, because you are letting us into your home and that deserves more than the legal minimum.
Personal information has the meaning given in the Privacy Act — broadly, information or an opinion about an identified individual, or an individual who is reasonably identifiable, whether or not it is true and whether or not it is recorded in a material form.
What we collect
We only collect what we actually need. Depending on how far you go with us, that may include:
- Contact and identity details
- Your name, email address, phone number and postal address.
- Property and access details
- The address where the work is to be done, the suburb, whether it is a home or a business, and any access notes you give us — gate codes, parking, pets, a preferred entry time, or that a key is with a neighbour.
- Project information
- Window and door measurements, room names, ceiling and floor details, fabric, colour and hardware selections, existing window coverings, power outlet locations for motorised products, and your budget or timeframe if you tell us.
- Photographs and measurement notes
- Photographs of the windows and rooms we are quoting on, and the notes and sketches our consultant makes during the measure. These almost always capture parts of your home’s interior. See section 6.
- Transaction records
- Quotes, orders, invoices, deposits and payments, delivery and installation dates, service and warranty history, and our correspondence with you.
- Payment details
- We record that a payment was made and how. We do not store full card numbers — card payments are handled by our payment provider or terminal, and bank transfers reach us through our bank.
- Website and technical information
- Standard information your browser sends when you load a page, and the small amount of data our site stores on your device. See section 10.
We do not seek sensitive information as the Privacy Act defines it — health, racial or ethnic origin, political or religious views, sexual orientation, criminal record and the like. Occasionally something of that kind is unavoidable and relevant, such as a mobility or medical need that affects how a room is fitted out or how we should attend your home. Where that happens we collect it only with your consent, use it only for that purpose, and delete it when the job is complete.
How we collect it
Directly from you
Most of what we hold, you give us: through the quote form on this website, by phone, email, SMS or social media message, in conversation during your in-home consultation, or on a signed quote or order form.
From other people
Sometimes we are given your details by someone acting for you or alongside you — a builder, architect, interior designer, property manager, strata manager or a family member arranging the job. We may also receive your details when you are referred to us by an existing customer. If we collect your information from someone other than you, we will tell you we hold it and why, unless you would already reasonably expect that.
Automatically
Our website and the services behind it record limited technical information when you visit, as described in section 10.
If you would rather not give us some piece of information, that is your choice — but we may not be able to quote accurately, manufacture to size, or install safely without it.
Why we collect it
We use your personal information only for the purpose we collected it for, for a directly related purpose you would reasonably expect, or where you have consented or the law requires it. In practice, that is:
- to answer your enquiry and arrange a free in-home measure and quote;
- to prepare, price and revise your quote;
- to place your order into manufacture and have it made to your exact window sizes;
- to arrange freight, delivery and an installation appointment, and to let our installer reach you on the day;
- to invoice you and process and record payment;
- to provide after-sales service, honour warranties, and handle repairs, adjustments and replacements;
- to keep our own business records, including accounting, tax and insurance;
- to respond to a complaint, or to establish, exercise or defend a legal claim;
- to improve our products, service and website;
- with your consent, to show your completed project in our gallery or on social media (section 6); and
- with your consent or as otherwise permitted, to send you occasional marketing (section 9).
Photographs of your home
Photography is part of how we work. Our consultant photographs your windows at the measure so the workroom can see what we are making for; our installer photographs the finished job so we have a record of what was fitted, in the condition it was left.
Those working photographs stay internal. We use them to manufacture, install and service your order, and to defend a warranty or damage claim if one is ever made.
We will only publish a photograph of your home — on this website, in our gallery, in printed material, or on social media — if you have given us written permission to do so. Where you do give permission:
- we will not publish your name, street address or anything else that identifies where you live;
- we will ask before publishing anything that shows people, pets, personal possessions or artwork; and
- you can withdraw your permission at any time by emailing us, and we will take the image down from anything we control, as soon as we reasonably can. Material already printed, or already reshared by other people, may not be recoverable.
If you would prefer we did not photograph your home at all beyond the measurements we need, tell your consultant — that is completely fine.
Overseas disclosure
Our window furnishings are made to order by our manufacturing partner in China and shipped to Perth. To have your order made we send them the technical specification: window dimensions, product type, fabric, colour, hardware, control side, and an order reference number.
We do not send them your name, address, phone number or email address. Your order is identified to them by reference number only.
Some of the everyday services we use to run the business — website hosting, the form handler that delivers enquiries from this website, email, file storage and backup — are operated by providers who may store or process data on servers outside Australia, commonly in the United States, the European Union or Singapore. Where that is the case, we take reasonable steps to satisfy ourselves that the provider handles personal information consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles, but we cannot control every act of an overseas recipient, and the privacy laws of those countries may differ from Australia's.
By submitting an enquiry through this website you consent to your enquiry being handled that way.
Marketing & opting out
From time to time we may contact you about new fabrics, seasonal ranges or offers — by email, SMS or post. We will only do this where you have asked us to, or where you are an existing customer or have enquired with us and would reasonably expect to hear from us.
Every marketing email and SMS we send carries a working unsubscribe. You can also opt out at any time by emailing hello@luminaireliving.com.au or calling +61 433 581 728, and we will action it promptly and at no cost to you. We comply with the Spam Act 2003 (Cth) and the Do Not Call Register.
Opting out of marketing does not stop the messages we have to send you about a job in progress — quote follow-ups, delivery and installation times, invoices and warranty notices.
Our website
We have deliberately kept this website light. There is no advertising network on it, no social media tracking pixel, and no analytics product following you between sites.
What is stored on your device
The site saves one item in your browser’s local storage — lumen-theme — which remembers whether you chose the light or dark version of the site. It contains no personal information, is never sent to us, and clearing your browser data removes it.
Third-party services on our pages
- Web3Forms delivers the quote form to our inbox. When you submit the form, the details you typed pass through their service to reach us.
- Google Fonts serves the two typefaces the site uses. Loading them lets Google see your IP address and browser details.
- Google Maps is embedded on our home and contact pages so you can find us. Loading the map lets Google see your IP address and may involve Google's own cookies.
Those providers handle that information under their own privacy policies, which we do not control. If you would rather not load the map, simply do not scroll to it or interact with it.
Server logs
Like nearly every website, our host records standard technical information about each request — IP address, date and time, the page requested, browser type and referring page. We use it only to keep the site running and secure, and we do not use it to try to identify you.
Links to other sites
Where we link to another website, that site's privacy practices are its own. We are not responsible for them, and we encourage you to read the policy of any site you visit.
Security & how long we keep it
We take reasonable steps to protect your personal information from misuse, interference and loss, and from unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. In practice that means access limited to the people who need it, password-protected and screen-locked devices, reputable hosted services for email and file storage, backups, and paper measure sheets kept secure and destroyed once digitised.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, and information you send us by email or over the internet travels at your own risk.
We keep your information only as long as we need it for the purposes above, or as long as the law requires — tax and business records must generally be kept for seven years, and we keep order, measurement and installation records for at least the length of the warranty on your product so we can service it. When information is no longer needed and we are not required to keep it, we destroy it or de-identify it.
Data breaches
If we become aware of unauthorised access to, or disclosure or loss of, personal information we hold, we will act quickly to contain it and assess what has happened.
Where a breach is likely to result in serious harm to you, we will notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) in line with the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme, and we will tell you what has happened and what you can do about it.
Access & correction
You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and you can ask us to correct anything that is wrong, out of date, incomplete or misleading.
Email hello@luminaireliving.com.au or write to us at the address in section 16. We will ask you to verify your identity, then respond within 30 days. There is no charge for making a request; if a request is unusually large we may charge a reasonable amount for the time to compile it, and we will tell you before we do.
In limited cases the Privacy Act allows us to refuse access or correction — for example where it would unreasonably affect another person's privacy, or relate to anticipated legal proceedings. If we refuse, we will tell you why in writing and how to complain about it.
You can also ask us to delete what we hold. We will do so wherever we are not required to keep it for the reasons in section 11, and we will tell you what we have kept and why.
You can deal with us anonymously or under a pseudonym for a general enquiry. We cannot quote, manufacture or install anonymously — we need to know where the windows are and who to bill.
Complaints
If you think we have mishandled your personal information, please tell us first — most things are resolved with one conversation.
- Email hello@luminaireliving.com.au with “Privacy complaint” in the subject line, or call +61 433 581 728. Tell us what happened and what you would like us to do.
- We will acknowledge you within 5 business days and give you a written response within 30 days. If we need longer, we will tell you why and how long we expect to take.
- If you are not satisfied with our response, you can take the matter to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner: oaic.gov.au, 1300 363 992, or GPO Box 5218, Sydney NSW 2001.
For consumer matters that are not about privacy, Consumer Protection WA can help — consumerprotection.wa.gov.au or 1300 30 40 54.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as our business or the law changes. The current version always lives at this address, with the effective date at the top of the page. If a change materially affects how we handle information we already hold about you, we will take reasonable steps to tell you directly.
Continuing to use this website or our services after a change means you accept the updated policy.
